SAFETY

Locks are dangerous places. Built over 200 years ago before Health and Safety was considered, there are deep locks, fast moving water, uneven towpaths and dangerous lock gear mechanisms. Boats can be thrown around in a lock and crush anyone with legs dangling plus their propellor spinning would cause serious injury or death is someone fell in a lock. Weil's Desease is a risk too.

Children should be closely supervised by an adult and not allowed to run around, roll down the grass banks or play in any canal water.

Dogs must be on a lead at all times.

Bicycles, skateboards, skates, scooters and similar must not be ridden anywhere near the locks.

Barbeques or any other naked flames or fires are not allowed anywhere on the Foxton Locks site.

Weil's Desease (leptospirosis) can be contracted from canal water so if you come into contact with canal water always wash thoroughly. If you experience flu like symptons consult your GP and mention Weil's desease. In some cases IT CAN KILL.
